Chapter 6

  • "What's meant to be will always find a way." - Trisha Yearwood.
  • For the first five days of their stay in Los Angeles, Spencers, the whole family, walked around town. There were also shopping, of course, which only George did not like. Then they spent time on the beach, in the hotel restaurant, the cinema... As they were in California, they also visited Hollywood. Madeline has collected quite a few autographs from celebrities she met. After an eventful day, they returned to their hotel. This is how the week of vacation has passed.
  • One day, Ruth and George left their daughters alone in a hotel room to go out with some old friends they had met at the bar. Madeline was curled up in an armchair flipping through the channels on TV, with a slightly bored expression on his face. With free hand, she reached from time to time to the packet of chips, which laid on her lap. Rita stared at the cliffs in the distance, sitting on a couch opposite a huge window. She felt a tremendous urge pulling her in that direction, and something like a voice inside the head calling out to her.
  • - Mad, can I leave you here alone for a short while?- Rita suddenly asked, turning her gaze to sister.
  • - Well... Sure.- replied Madeline, taking eyes from the TV screen to look at Rita.- But where are you going?- she asked after a moment.
  • - To those cliffs out there.- Rita pointed to the view outside the window, already dressing up in her tracksuit.
  • - Got it. Just don't stay there too long if you don't want your parents to get upset, ok? Also, be careful, the cliffs are always a rather dangerous place.- Madeline said as Rita opened the door.
  • - Don't worry, I will be careful.- she replied with a smile, then left the room.
  • ~~~~~~
  • There was complete silence in the forest, only occasionally you could hear chirping or rustling leaves. The path leading to the cliff climbed up the hill. There was a wonderful smell of grass in the air. The mere sight of greenness and the peace that prevailed here had a very relaxing effect on Rita. She was glad had decided to go out.
  • After a long walk, the forest was over, and Rita came into the meadow, a little further away was the rocky edge of the cliff. She came closer to it, observing the waves from above, constantly hitting the lower parts. The view was breathtaking, although it was also a bit scary, however, for such views it was worth coming here anyway. If Rita would be careful, nothing bad will happen, right? In order not to spoil her trip with negative thoughts, she focused on admiring the views and breathing in the wonderful sea breeze.
  • Suddenly, however, Rita felt that she had moved her left foot forward, but as if not by herself, it felt as if someone or something pushed her leg at the level of the calf, causing the foot to shift. Then there was the sound of moving stones and everything went on in a matter of seconds. Suddenly the ground slipped from under her feet and she began to fall down...
  • Rita had been falling for a long time, or so she thought, feeling the wind lash against her face. Finally, her whole body hit something really hard. She heard bone crunch and then there was a huge pain in the back of her head. Rita reached this place with great effort and touched her hair, felling a warm liquid under her fingers - definitely the blood. Sight before Rita's eyes began to blur and darken gradually, she couldn't move her legs or arms, and soon began to lose feeling in them. Rita felt like she did then, after the car accident in which her parents were killed. She lied there for about five minutes and then passed out. Her last thought before a complete lost of consciousness was that she was going to die for sure.
  • ~~~~~~
  • Ruth and George returned to the room. At the news of Rita's whereabouts, Ruth almost passed out.
  • - What were you thinking? It's dangerous out there!- she screamed, terrified.- Those cliffs crumble at the slightest gust of wind... Why did you let her go there? And on top of that, alone?- Ruth added, looking scoldingly at Madeline.
  • - But I had no idea...- Madeline began to explain, almost crying.
  • - There is no sense in being nervous about it. We have to there go get her and hope nothing bad happened to her.- George replied, soothing his wife.
  • At the same moment Madeline finally burst into tears.
  • - Mom is right, how could I do something like that...- she sobbed, and the expression on her face indicated that she felt very guilty.
  • - It's not your fault, baby. You had no idea about it, after all. Me and mom should have told you both about it. We are responsible for you as parents.- the father hugged her.
  • - It's true.- Ruth agreed with her husband.- I'm so sorry for attacking you like that, my dear, it's also our fault. Actually, mostly our fault.- she added, hugging her daughter as well.
  • - Let's go find Rita now.- George repeated, dragging his daughter and wife to the door.
  • ~~~~~~
  • Walking through the forest, he suddenly felt something strange and following the lead, found himself on the edge of a cliff. He looked down and saw that there was an unconscious girl lying on the rocks, so he spread his wings, flew towards her and knelt down on one knee, examining girl's aura. She was still alive, but at any moment her soul could come out of the body. Blood oozed from the wound on the girl's head and nearly every bone in her body was broken in several places. Even if someone found this girl now and called an ambulance, it was too late to save her, at least not with an use of conventional medicine. On the most optimistic version, that someone would find her right now and notify the nearest hospital, she would probably die on the way to the hospital, if not earlier.
  • He didn't know why, but felt the great desire to help her. Maybe his angelic nature spoke up? Or was it the girl's strange aura that made him do it? At this moment, he couldn't find out what exactly was so unusual about her aura, he would have to spend a little longer time near her. Unfortunately, if this girl would die soon, it will be impossible.
  • Perhaps that was the main reason why he took her in his arms, spread wings, and flew back to the top of the cliff, landing in a meadow just outside the forest. Then he put the girl on the grass and bent over her. He felt right away that didn't have much time. If he wanted to save her, had to act quickly, and at the same time hoped he had enough power left to make things work as it should.
  • - I give you a piece of my angelic spirit to heal the body. Let your soul remain inside.- he whispered, then placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, with evident relief, feeling that it had worked. For a complete confirmation of this, after only two or three minutes, the wound on the head began to slowly close, the bones and nerves also started to regenerate. Her heartbeat normalized, and consciousness gradually returned, but before the girl regained it completely, he spread his wings and disappeared into the clouds. She was human, so shouldn't have seen him.
  • ~~~~~~
  • Ruth, George, and Madeline were walking in the woods calling for Rita. After a while, their cries became more and more desperate.
  • - Where is she?- Mrs. Spencer said, worried out of her mind.
  • Madeline was still crying. Despite her parents' consolation, she still blamed herself for everything
  • George was the most calm out of everyone. He knew panic wouldn't help.
  • - We'll find her, don't worry.- he said, trying to calm down his wife and daughter.
