• Rita parked in front of Sylvia's house, walked to the door, and knocked a little hesitantly. The last time she was here was a year ago when Rita and her friend did a project together for a biology contest. Maybe they should do something like this together again, she thought, because they'd been meeting mostly at school lately, and in some classes, but not outside of school.
• The door opened and Sylvia's mother stood in it, a short, filigree blonde with a pale complexion, with very similar facial features to her daughter's.
