Chapter 6 Fired from work

  • "No...no Cassy what happened here!"I rushed inside as soon as I got to the restaurant and what I found left me speechless. The place looked like they were moving in. The tables were flipped and the chairs were missing, everything was a mess and some employees were busy putting the remaining things in order once cassy saw me she came running and her facial expression was something I fear
  • "How could you do this Vivie...I trusted you with everything but now look at this 'she said while I was busy scanning my surroundings, I was agitated not sure what happened and when the office door to Janice opened he walked out looking all rugged up. His clothes were wrinkled up as if he slept under the bridge and his hair was messy. Immediately he saw me, his expression turned deadly and I knew something bad had happened and it had my name written on it. Two police officers came out of his office and I was even more scared
  • "Cassy...what going on?"I turned to cassy and asked wanting to know if they were moving the restaurant somewhere and if so then how come I didn't know about
  • "We got robbed Vivie...the door was left open...the security alarms were turned on hence...thieves stole everything...they even broke down Janice's office and broke the safe" like a sharp stab to my heart cassy finished explaining to me what happened and my eyes widened as my hand moved to my mouth in shock. They stole everything, how did they steal so many things when I locked the door and turned the alarm closes on
  • "But...I but I turned...I Locked the door...yes...I" I stammered the word out trying to remember that I indeed locked all the doors to the restaurant securely, I was certain about it that I locked the door but when Janice approached me and showed me the keys, my soul instantly left my body and my knees weakened seeing the keys he had in his hands, those were the employee keys he left for us to close his restaurant since he went home early and if he was holding them then
  • "You damned girl left my restaurant open...you left it open and those damned thieves stole everything I worked hard for"a tight slap landed on my face, it happened so fast and so expected that my head was turned the other way feeling a burning sensation rush through me. Janice was a man in his early 30s tall with dark hair and some crazy tattoos on his arms and neck, he owned a restaurant which he said was the only source of income. It was doing good with a lot of customers coming every day and standing before me he was angry. His stern voice proved how displeased he was and once I tilted my head back to him. I saw the fire in his eyes. Cassy was standing there without saying a word. I messed up big time. I was too distracted by the drunk man that I didn't know I left without locking the doors. I felt bad and ashamed for being so irresponsible. Looking around, everything was ruined, they said the kitchen was empty and everything was stolen. The police were trying to track down the thieves but it was going to be a long process
  • "P...please Janice...I know I messed up but...please don't"I was begging knowing the hard-earned money I was saving for three months won't be paid to me, Janice had not paid me for the past three months and my pay was to come in by tomorrow but with what happened I knew he wouldn't even give me a dime
  • "You won't get your payment Vivienne, you ruined me and see this..what will I do huh! everything is gone, my equipment gone" he was angry as he shouted so much that the people around stopped to watch what was happening. I was the centre of it all, I made a huge mistake. I valued money more and got careless. If only I didn't help that man, maybe I would have locked the restaurant. It was my fault, this was the only job which paid me quite well although the money wasn't a lot. It paid half my house rent and part of my fees. I was devastated that not even cassy was willing to look me in the eyes because I was responsible that her job was gone
  • Everyone was looking at me with disdainful looks
  • "I trusted you...I gave you everything I paid you but you are so selfish...you only care about yourself...now leave Vivie...even if I rebuild my restaurant I don't want you here"just like that everything was over, I was left with nothing, I ruined everything with my bare hands. Janice walked away before I could beg him not to do this to me, I was willing to do anything to make everything right. I was ashamed for failing to do something right for the first time
  • "Cassy...please?"
  • "Don't say it...I have a sick mother and a small brother to take care of...this was the one good job I had but you ruined it...Vivie, I trusted you with this...its best you don't talk to me" she cut me off before I could say anything to rectify my mistakes, she was hurt, angry and couldn't stand my face. I remained standing there feeling all sorts of emotions engulfing. I was confused as I turned to leave, I was glad Janice didn't press any charges or I'd be in jail rotting away. My ankle was even worse than before as I walked down the pavement heading to the main road. I was left with nothing. I was happy at least to have this one job but now I ruined it.
  • The orphanage headmistress was right, my existence was nothing but a curse, I was cursed to do nothing right. Maybe that's why I was dumped by my parents maybe it's why they didn't want a cursed child in their lives
  • Everything seemed dark, I didn't even mind walking home, I didn't even notice my right foot was bleeding and with each step, I took a lot of blood that remained on the gravel road staining a red colour, the injury was fresh again. The pain killers I had taken earlier stopped working and the pain doubled even more than before. The sun was setting, I was sweating as I walked aimlessly, I wanted to stop and take some rest for my injured foot but I just wanted to get home and sleep. I needed to find another job. I wasn't a quitter, come rain come sunshine I had to keep moving. I didn't have a choice other than to move on. Even if I went back and begged Janice, he wasn't going to give me the job back. Hence, I took a left turn and came to the shabby building I called home. It wasn't so luxurious like most buildings with apartments but it was my home. And I had no choice but to go in and face Mrs Egan
  • "So you are back...my money"immediately I entered the lobby and I was greeted by the lady who owned the building. Standing there with her hands on her hips. I shifted my gaze to a corner and found my things piled up there
  • "W...what are you doing...I told you I'll give you the money...please give me some time"I dragged myself to the lady not sure why she decided to throw me out. I've lived in her building since I was ten, she knew I was all alone but even so I paid her the rent. Sometimes I packed however whenever I got paid from the small part-time jobs I did. I gave her the money, for the past three months my work wasn't as effective as before that's why I delayed her payment but now it seemed every had caught up with me.
