Chapter 7

  • Maverick's P. O. V:
  • What was so important about getting married anyway? I thought to myself on our short silent drive back to the office that left scrolling. My mom wanted me married so badly she had to also agree to whatever contract those people signed, now Mr. Philip wouldn't sign my contract because he thinks I should be married. I might just search for tiny happiness to get married to Natalie. Maybe this once, my family would be off my back and Mr. Philip or another person would have no reason not to contract me. I suddenly wanted two weeks to go by quickly.
  • Eric pulled up in the parking lot. Just then, my phone began to ring. My mom was calling. She possibly wanted to say something concerning this wedding thing. Eric opened the door for me and Maya already trailed off into the building while I hesitated to pick up my mom's call walking around in a few circles.
  • "Hey mom," I said when I picked. A blare of Celine Dion's music filled my ears from her side. Was she somewhere?
  • "Where are you, mom?" I asked without even waiting for her response to the hey mom.
  • "I'm home. Oh, the music? I just felt like it"
  • I could picture her face trying so hard to convince me she wanted to just listen to Celine Dion. I didn't blame her somehow, she mostly didn't have anything to do, and also she was hypertensive, also she worried a lot. It wasn't her fault she got caught up falling in love with a don. "Are you okay? You sound sick"
  • "Yes, son I'm okay. Did you get my text about tomorrow?"
  • "Yes I did" I responded calmly "I'll do as requested"
  • " How about your contract with Nike," She asked, I remembered I'd told her about it earlier.
  • "We rescheduled" I couldn't tell her what condition was given. That would only help her push me the more.
  • "Okay, I'll see you when you are home"
  • " Okay, rest well. Yeah see you soon" I responded and she hung up.
  • Mothers sometimes. I sighed. Then I found my way into my company tower.
  • The elevator ran quietly up to the fourth floor. The reason I choose the fourth floor to locate my office was something even I didn't know. Maya's office was next to mine. One time I'd wanted to keep our desks in the same room to at least monitor her work but she objected and somehow Levi my best friend had to support her so I didn't. Wonder what she did when I wasn't calling her.
  • So, out of curiosity, I walked to Maya's office. I didn't knock before pushing the door open. I guess she didn't expect anyone to come by. She jumped up in shock.
  • "Sir?" She was still in shock. Was she doing something she shouldn't be doing? Why was she startled that much?
  • "Are you okay? " I asked her.
  • "Yes, I.......am....." She stammered.
  • "Were you sleeping at work?" I didn't know what to think, she appeared suspicious. I stared at her wistfully trying to figure out what happened with Maya. The first two buttons of her shirt were open, I could see through. Was she planning on seducing me? I doubt. Even she looked a bit exhausted. I must have stressed her so much lately.
  • "Get yourself together, it's working time" she nodded severally, face down. I eyed her and shut her office door behind me walking away to my office.
  • I had so much work waiting for me to finish before the day was over. I was already tired.
  • "I want us to talk" I texted Levi and continued shuffling through the array of files on my desk after keeping my phone by the side. My phone beeped. I peeped on my phone, it was Levi.
  • "Shall we head out tonight?" He texted
  • I knew heading out with Levi meant drinking alcohol. Even though it was Monday, somehow I needed a little break. I went through a lot lately.
  • "Okay, I'll close off work early" I texted back.
  • Natalie's POV:
  • "Mom, I'm going out with Abby tonight," I told my mom walking into the kitchen. I opened the refrigerator and took out the jar of milk. I poured a suitable amount into a glass. "Did you hear Ma?"
  • " I did" She replied sharply raising her head from the carrot she was cutting. I didn't know if Anita had gone off work. It was quite early though. "Just don't sleep out, you're going to be a wife soon" She glared at me.
  • For real ma? Wife? Since Maverick and his family left in the morning, she had been acting like only the wedding mattered. She reminded me every minute that I would be a wife soon. She must be excited I would be a wife soon. I wondered if her parents give her off without her consent.
  • "Did you tell your father already?" She asked.
  • " Yes, I did. He said I could go" I pouted defending myself. How badly I wished that I'll spend the night at Abby's, her parents had been away since the weekend. She was alone with their dog. Poor girl, her parents were always away. At least thank God I could still leave the house a bit. I looked forward to being outside so badly.
  • I left the kitchen with the glass of milk I poured earlier.
  • "Hey, sis" Andrew waved at me when I walked past him in the living room to the lawn.
  • My phone began to ring when I sat on the bench.
  • "Hey" I picked it was Abby.
  • " You getting ready?" She asked "because I am so ready girl to-"
  • " Abby?"
  • "Yes? " She responded and stopped talking.
  • "I don't know what to wear"
  • "Wear the red gown with slit" She suggested.
  • " That gown is too serious Abby" I breathed out oxygen
  • "Then wear the white short gown with strap"
  • " I'll just come over to your place soon enough" I concluded and made an effort to hang up.
  • "Nat?" Abby shouted from the other side. "Be happy okay, don't die please" She sounded like she would actually cry just by saying don't die.
  • "I won't Abby. I won't die" I wasn't even sure. I might die from what was about happening to my life. I might just die marrying Maverick.
  • "Good! See you" Abby responded cheerfully like a small kid who had just been offered candy. Then she hung up.
