Chapter 2 TWO

  • Diana's POV
  • My brother used to tell me, not be careless and to let my guard up at all times.
  • "Diana!" I heard someone scream my name in horror as I groaned, pulling myself up with one of the branches for support.
  • They must've thought I'm dead by now.
  • Well, I did try to take extra precautions on my every move, and besides, that brother of mine did not mention about the environment being not careful and human friendly.
  • I balanced myself, ignoring the throbbing of my head.
  • Climbing trees sure is a pain.
  • "Goddamn it, Diana!" A familiar voice growled in anticipation as I slipped on the thin branch I'm currently on to.
  • Just like that, I fell...
  • And died.
  • ****
  • "What were you thinking!?" My older brother, Daniel, yelled in utter depression. "You could've died on the spot if you hadn't been caught!"
  • So, yeah, I didn't literally die. See, I'm alive and somehow...well.
  • "I didn't mean to do it.." I drawled out, guiltily, pinching the fabric of my dress, which I've always done when I'm nervous or lying.
  • Who wouldn't be guilty anyway? I ditched my own birthday party, in the middle of midnight and insisted on having my own fun around the woods, which did not go well as planned. And if it wasn't for someone random catching me, I would've cracked my head open to death.
  • "'You didn't mean to do it,' were your first words?" He scoffed, as if he'd just heard me tell him that orange is a fruit, instead of a color.
  • Seriously, is orange really a fruit or a color? Or was it tangerines...
  • "Are you listening, young lady?" His voice snapped me off my thoughts.
  • "Hmm?" I hummed in question before chuckling. "I don't know what time it is either."
  • "I wasn't asking about the time." He groaned, giving me look of hopelessness. "You never listened do you?"
  • "I don't- er, of course I do." I stuttered. "I mean, the party's not over!" I moved up to stand, though the throbbing returned. "Ow!"
  • "It's over for us, and do not go out with that throbbing head of yours until it heals." He stated firmly, not leaving any room for arguments.
  • "But-"
  • "What?"
  • "It's not even a major injury, and have school tomorrow?" I stated, of more like asked.
  • "Ditch it, your safety is way important. If you hadn't ditch us and hit your head, you could've been in school." He's now using his Alpha tone against me, he's not even the official Alpha yet, since dad still hadn't stepped down his position, but he's already using it against me.
  • Did he just forgot I never listen to anyone in particular?
  • "Fucking Alphas." I cursed. I never curse, I only do it when I'm pissed or irritated.
  • "What did you just say?" He questioned me even though he knew pretty well what I've said.
  • "Good night, Alpha." I curtsied dramatically before hopping my way through the pack corridors as I heard him sigh from behind.
  • ****
  • Most of the pack members must've been asleep for now, so I made my way towards my room. And trust me, its not just any typical normal room, its size is as huge as a ball room. The pack house's no mansion either, unlike any other pack houses, its more of a Hotel Transylvania typa shit, if you ask me.
  • That's one advantage when your family leads the strongest pack in all of North. They're not technically my biological family, and I kept asking them that, though they always insisted that I'm theirs, when obviously I'm not. Well, to make matters short, I'm human, I don't have a wolf and whatnot about supernatural powers most were kinds have. I'm a fragile, clumsy, troublemaker mortal, yet I'm not a coward nor a weakling, I've made sure of that. I don't even know how I ended in their world, maybe a stork had flew me in.
  • But it's not like I'm arguing with it, and since I've lived amidst their kinds, I've been pretty cautious on having to keep up myself with them, that I took most my time dancing, or rather observing the way they fight, and ended up learning A LOT.
  • One problem though, it seems like, I'm not needing these skills I've been coping up onto. The pack treated me equally the way they treat my family, even though I'm human, they don't take advantage of my mortality to hurt me, instead, they went batshit crazy once I do something to expose myself into danger. They won't even let a single scratch live on me! Not to mention, my brother dearest had me under surveillance every time I leave my room, and I'm sure someone's trailing me from behind right now.
  • Oh, and how did I ever manage to ditch my previous guard? Easy! I let him drink to his heart's content, that's how kind and understanding my ego is.
  • Once we finally reached my room, I faced the guy seriously, who currently just followed me. "Spot."
  • "It's Scott." The guy grumbled.
  • "Good night." I mocked a salute towards him before shutting my door. I quickly locked it and shifted towards the huge space that had not been used to continue my dancing sessions.
  • I actually tried to make it a gym, but Daniel would likely know about it. So, in order to avoid being known of these secret sessions of mine, I ended up equipping it onto a dance studio. I love the art of dancing, and its calm, majestic, lovely way, together with that, I found a way connecting combat through it. It wasn't that hard, since I made sure the pack members, train from below my bedroom window, that way, I could catch up through what they're doing.
  • I've been doing this thing, the moment I found out about their kinds and the danger that awaits them. I was probably twelve back then, when I took interest on these wolves around, and the mere thought of danger, scares me, yet excites me at the same time.
  • Call me weird, but I to love the sight of sweets and candies, together with blood and suffering.
  • ****
  • "Diana, dear, you don't have to help around. You have school today, haven't you?" My mother, Hera, the current Luna told me as I helped around the kitchen for the day.
  • "I do, but it seems that Daniel have other plans for me today." I answered carefully, since she doesn't know about what happened just a few eight hours ago, and I don't want her to know. "He told me to stay for the day to be sure I'm fine enough to go to school after the party last night." I added and that seemed to assure her, even though only half of what I said is true.
  • "Too bad, this should be the right day for you to find your mate." My best friend, Polly giggled from behind and I almost plucked my own eyeballs out from what I just heard.
  • "Mate, huh?" I hummed calmly. Never thought of having one actually, no matter how much I want one, and I've envied them for having their what so-called, soul mates. Lucky them, and unlucky me, since I'm human. "Shouldn't you be in school today, Polly?"
  • "It's boring without having you around." She shrugged and elbowed me lightly before scooting closer. "So, any signs of mate yet?"
  • "I'm human, I don't have one." I mumbled as I've said this line for like the thousandth time already.
  • "You're in the were society, Diana." Now mom's jumping in our conversation. "It's normal expecting for one, and its normal having one as well." Sometimes, I really think, mom could hear my thoughts as her words made all my doubt, realistic enough for me to believed her.
  • "Told you." Polly chirped dreamily. She's older than me, though she hadn't found her mate yet, and she's literally over the moon every time just thinking about it.
  • If I'm raised in the human society, I would've wondered over and over again of how special mates are suppose to be. But, I've grown up around the were kinds, and not a single time I've been forgotten to be reminded on how precious their mates are. I've never knew how it felt and no matter how much I hoped on having one, I've doubt it most of times.
