Chapter 4 Messages

  • Austin’s POV
  • “Austin! We have a case.” Aaron said to me.
  • “There’s a terror attack at the Blue Square building, there’s one casualty.” Jason explained.
  • “What? Let’s go!” I said then wear my jacket.
  • “Austin!” Aaron called me and threw me a taser.
  • “Use it accordingly.” He warnings.
  • “I know.” I said then chuckles. We all run towards the car and Jason put the siren on.
  • After some minutes we arrived at the building and we saw that there’s still a crowd even though there’s one casualty.
  • “Let us through, we’re the police!” Jason shouted and we saw a woman lying on the ground, she was bleeding badly and unconscious.
  • “Have you seen the culprit?” I asked to the guy who’s holding the woman.
  • “No, I was looking at her and she suddenly run towards me and shot by gun. Everything happens so fast.” He said hysterically.
  • “The ambulance is here, sir.” Jason said and I give way to the rescuer who’s holding first aids and other things.
  • “We have to get your statement, sir.” I said to the guy and he just nods.
  • “No one can leave this place, you should get statements from these people and look if there’s a witness.” I ordered to Aaron.
  • “I got it, you go first to the station.” he said and left me.
  • “Come with me, sir.” I said to him.
  • “What about Yana?” he asked, maybe that’s the name of the woman.
  • “You don’t have to worry, she will be transported to the nearest hospital.” I said to him.
  • “Please let her go to Imperial Hospital.”
  • “But that’s not the nearest hospital.” I said.
  • “She has to be in that hospital!” he shouted, still confused but I called the ambulance and direct them to go to the Imperial Hospital.
  • “I already said it to them, we now have to go to the station.” I said then I saw him following me. We arrived at the station and I let him sit first at the interrogation room.
  • “Can you speak how the incident happened?” I asked him.
  • “I was the one who’s talking with those people who are protesting about our products. You know our company, right? We are selling lunchboxes and the last incident accused us that our food has poisonous components which leads to deaths. But, we have no idea how that incident happened, we can show files of legality and inspection with our products to prove our innocence.” He explained.
  • “Then, Yana suddenly went out and telling me to go inside of the building instead of talking to those people.”
  • “Why do you think she said that?”
  • “I don’t know but she recently got messages.” He answered which got my full interest.
  • “What messages?”
  • “I know I may sound crazy, but she got messages from the day her father died, week ago. It says that her father will die in an accident, but she ignored it and her father really dies at the end. We are thinking that the sender was the killer, but we do not know who’s sending them. Then now, she said I’ll be the one who’s gonna be shot and she saved my life.” He ended and put down his dead for regrets.
  • “Can I see those messages?” I asked.
  • “I think Yana still carries her phone with her at the ambulance.” He said and I left the room after he said that.
  • “Jason!” I called him as soon as I saw him walking at the hallway.
  • “Yes, sir?”
  • “Are you done collecting statements?”
  • “Yes sir, but none of them actually witnessed who shot the victim. All of them are focused on shouting and they did not saw any suspicious person around.” He reported.
  • “Okay, I got it. I have another question.”
  • “What is it?”
  • “What did you get from tracing the sender I said to you?” I asked and he suddenly became wary of his surroundings.
  • “Sir, I am not sure if we should believe in it, but the cyber team said that you are the one who’s sending the messages to yourself.” He whispered.
  • “What? That’s impossible. I don’t know that something like that would happen.” I said to him.
  • “That’s what I think, sir. That is why I let them if there might be someone who hacked your phone.”
  • “What did they saw?”
  • “No one sir. The messages were all sent in single line, no outside parties involved.”
  • “How in the world I received something like that?”
  • “You can change your phone number and phone itself if you are still skeptical about it, sir.” He suggested.
  • “No, I would like to know what would happen at the end. Oh, you should retrieve the victim’s phone also.”
  • “For what?” he asked innocently.
  • “I just want to check something.” I said then left him.
  • Am I not the only one who’s receiving those messages?
  • Quianna’s POV
  • Sudden felt consciousness and I forced myself to slowly open my eyes. White ceiling welcomes me the same as I see in movies. Normally, the protagonist would ask if he or she is dead, but I know that I am in the hospital because of the dextrose I felt in my hand.
  • “Yana! Are you awake? Do you recognize me?”
  • “Of course, fool.” I answered him, still weak but still I managed to smile a bit.
  • “What a relief! Why would you do something reckless like that? What if you die? Do I have to blame myself for my whole life?”
  • “Stop nagging me, Dylan. What a unique way of saying thank you.” I said then slowly getting up.
  • “You still should lie down, you’re still weak.” He said then hold my shoulders.
  • “I am good, I can kick your ass any moment.” I said jokingly.
  • “But—”
  • “No buts, what happened to the case? Did they catch the one who shot me?”
  • “Not yet but the police get you phone.” He quietly said.
  • “What? Why?”
  • “I said that someone’s texting you, so I guess they are investigating it.” he said and opened a can of peaches.
  • “They would not see anything.” I answered.
  • “Why would you think something like that?” someone entered the room, some guy that I don’t know.
  • “Yana, he’s detective Austin, the one who’s investigating your case.” Dylan introduced.
  • “So, what did you got from it?” I asked directly.
  • “Can I talk to you privately? Just asking few questions.” The Austin guy said and I just stare at Dylan.
  • “No, I should also hear your conversation.” Dylan said, very childish.
  • “Get out, Dylan.” I firmly said to him, he has no choice but to leave the room.
  • “What do you want to ask?” I said then reach for the fork and the can of peaches at my side table. I saw him walking towards it and give it to me.
  • “Do you believe those messages?” he asked.
  • “I guess so, I am witnessing them one by one, and I have no reason to ignore it.” I answered honestly.
  • “Do you have any idea of who can send it to us?” he asked.
  • “Wait, us? You are receiving too?” I asked, very surprised, it does really happen in real life.
  • “Yes, but in my case, I can catch suspects and criminals through it.”
  • “And mine, I can avoid those things to happen.” I realized.
  • “We tried tracing both senders, but it still resulted the same as previous results, we are the one who’s sending it to ourselves.” He said.
  • “But, how can I know when will my father die? How can I know if a flowerpot would fall from the rooftop and how in the world would I know if when would something like this would happen? This is all insane!” I shouted. I don’t know what to believe anymore.
  • “The same as mine, how would I know where those killers and criminals would be located?” he insists.
  • “But, do you realize that you became so dependent with it. What if it disappears, how would you, a police, would catch those criminals?” I asked suspiciously.
  • “Come on, I am the ace I can investigate it further.”
  • “But, how come you are not investigating who shot me? you just focused on the fact that I also received those.” I reasoned.
  • “I-I would investigate it of course, I just want to be sure if the culprit know you or just a stranger protester that time.”
  • “But do you notice that they are just disappearing? On the day my father’s accident, CCTVs on that highway is not working. The flowerpot incident also caught no one, also now, and the case was turned over to an idiot detective.” I said continuously.
  • “What did you say? Idiot? How could you say that to person you only saw for the first time?”
  • “Haven’t you heard about the term first impression? You show idiotic vibes so I was just believing my guts.” I said then start eating the peaches again.
  • “Don’t be so judgmental there!” he shouted.
  • “Looking at you being defensive, I think my first impression would last.” I said to him and grinned, he looks like a familiar friend which you can nag and tease anytime you want.
  • “Enough with that, I just came here for one purpose.” He seriously said.
  • “What do you want?”
  • “Quianna, be the witness.”
