Chapter 7 Sudden Attack

  • AURORA’S POV
  • I sat on the edge of the bed gripping it tightly. I tried hard to stem the flow of tears down my cheeks but in vain.
  • Tyson’s words kept resounding in my ears. His was filled with so much hatred. If I was given a chance, I would choose Caleb over Tyson anytime.
  • So what if he was the leader of the Mafia, he had been very kind to me.
  • “Thinking about my brother, are you?” A sweet voice sounded near me causing me to jump.
  • I raised my head to see an enchantress. Everything about her was perfection; deep, blue eyes juxtaposing her long golden locks, cherry red lips, and a perfect figure.
  • Her face flushed slightly and she said, “Thank you for your high appraisal. Some people think that my beauty makes me a weak person.”
  • “How did you know… can you read my mind?” I asked in an appalled voice.
  • “I can’t read minds but I can sense moods. With years of experience, I am quite proficient in guessing…”
  • What did she mean by Years of experience? She looked like a Teenager.
  • “Believe me, you DON’T want to know my age…”
  • My eyes widened and I asked warily, “What are you?”
  • She smirked at me and whispered, “I am a witch.”
  • She stretched her arms and waved them. Soon, the wind started flowing in a circular direction; the vase and the ground started shaking.
  • She stopped right at the moment I thought I was going to freak out.
  • I groaned as I massaged my head. Why couldn’t she be a normal girl?
  • “I am totally fed up with my a******e brother just like you. Does that make me better?
  • I couldn’t help but laugh at her exaggerated expressions. She took out candy and handed it to me saying, “Friends!”
  • How could I sustain the temptation of orange candy? I had to accept it.
  • Over the next few days, I spend most of my time chatting with her. She told me about dragons and werewolves and their long-drawn rivalry.
  • After five days of bonding, I finally felt comfortable enough to broach the topic I had been dying to know about.
  • “Why does Tyson want my baby, Zarina? Don’t tell me that it is because he loves his baby. I know that it is not true.”
  • “Ahem….my brother will probably skin me alive for telling you the truth but I feel that you deserve to know.
  • Tyson wants the baby so that he can get ‘The Heart of Magic.’ Your baby is the key to unlock the portal to the enchanted island.’”
  • My heart sank. I wondered what would become of me after Tyson got what he wanted.
  • “He might just kill you… as far as I know my brother, he doesn’t like to have any weakness…”
  • Caleb’s image flashed in my mind. He made me feel so safe. If only I could be with him.
  • “You don’t think that dog cares for you, do you? He is also after ‘The heart of Magic.’
  • I will tell you this only once Aurora. Don’t trust anyone; not even me!”
  • Then, she turned on her heel and walked away leaving me alone with my thoughts. Her words kept repeating in my head like a record.
  • I let out a long, deep sigh and sat beside the window. I could see the back of Tyson at a distance. He was busy talking to someone. Nah! I should rephrase this, he was barking orders and the other guy was listening.
  • He must feel so weighed down with all the responsibilities that came with being the king. I wondered if he was something more beneath the surface… Would he really kill me once he got what he wanted?
  • BOOM! There was a huge explosion right beside Tyson. I saw him fly in the air and crash against a nearby tree.
  • “No!!!” A scream escaped my mouth and I ran straight into the garden. My heart pounded against my ribs as I knelt beside him.
  • I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw his eyes open. His face turned red with fury and he roared, “What the hell do you think you are doing here!?”
  • I was about to reply but another explosion went off right in the room I had been. My ears rang as I stared at the room in horror. If I hadn’t rushed to the garden, I would have been turned to ashes.
  • “There has been an unexpected attack! We need to get to someplace safe.” Aslan said kneeling beside us.
  • “How the hell was our security system breached!? I am going to kill each one of these useless creeps including YOU!” Tyson roared in fury.
  • I wasn’t even surprised at his reaction. I knew what to expect from Tyson by now.
  • Aslan helped Tyson get up and started walking towards the mansion but I caught his arm and said, “I know a place that should be safe.”
  • Tyson snorted in response and said, “Girl! Are you trying to take advantage of the situation?”
  • I shook my head with disbelief but didn’t say anything neither did Aslan for the record. Leading them to the Oak Tree, I pushed the door open.
  • “Bloody Hell! Where did this come from?” Tyson exclaimed as he staggered inside.
  • “You both stay here. I will go and eliminate our enemies.” Aslan said and trotted away.
  • A gasped escaped my mouth when I saw Tyson’s shirt drenched in blood. The wound seemed deeper than expected.
  • I moved closer to him and peeled off his shirt. He winced slightly but let me remove the shirt. My mouth hung open and tears rolled down my cheeks as I took in the wound.
  • “You are such a ninny! You can’t even see such a small wound.” He said with indignation but the next moment he slumped to the floor.
  • I could see his jaws tighten but he didn’t scream. His breathing was becoming labored with every passing moment. I waited for the wound to heal magically like Zarina had mentioned but nothing of the sort happened.
  • My eyebrows furrowed as I asked, “Why aren’t you healing?”
  • “Painite… those dogs came prepared…” He said between gasps; before collapsing.
  • I looked out of the opening. Explosions and bullets were raining like cats and dogs. I drew in a deep breath and got to my feet.
  • “Where do you think you are going?” Tyson called out from behind but I just ignored him.
  • “If you leave this place without my permission, I will make you pay for it! Did you hear me?”
  • His voice faded in the background as I stooped behind a bush and started crawling towards the mansion. My heart was thundering against my ribs; my throat and mouth felt like they had been roasted dry.
  • This was stupid but it had to be done…
