Chapter 6 Learn To Be Prepared

  • ASLAN’S POV
  • For the last couple of hours, I was going crazy in search of Aurora. I was irked when I saw Tyson sipping his drink calmly.
  • “Are you not worried at all, brother? Even if you don’t care about Aurora, you should at least care for YOUR baby…”
  • He raised his head and snorted before saying, “Relax brother... We will find her soon.”
  • “No way, this is all my fault. I shouldn’t have trusted Lina. I can’t rest until she is found.”
  • “If you want to tire yourself, go ahead brother…” He said with a smirk and got back to drinking.
  • I let out a long deep sigh. Only he could be so relaxed while his child was missing. I had to ask someone else for help. I took out my phone and texted Zarina to come as soon as possible.
  • Out of the corner of my eyes, I caught my brother smiling victoriously at his phone.
  • I took a few steps towards him and asked curiously, “Care to share, brother…”
  • “Go to the Waylard Dock with two men and get Aurora. That dog will come with her… alone...”
  • “What is the catch?”
  • “Nothing, they want Aurora’s survival as much as we do. You activated the baby’s dragon genes by injecting your blood. The only way she will survive is if we keep injecting her with your blood…”
  • “B******! Couldn’t you have told me that earlier?”
  • “I did tell you to relax brother. Now go and get her rather than mopping about this.”
  • If it was some other time, I would have found a way to wipe out the smug look on his face. But, for now, my main concern was to get Aurora back to safety…
  • I stationed a small battalion of my men around the dock. Tyson was too relaxed about this and it was driving me to the edge.
  • When I reached the dock, I saw a very strange sight. Aurora was seated in Caleb’s lap. She had wrapped her arms around him and her head was resting on his chest.
  • What surprised me more was the tender expression on Caleb’s face. The man who terrorized the city was now cuddling Aurora as if his entire life revolved around her.
  • “Are you done ogling, Flamer!” Caleb’s mocking voice sounded as he turned to face me.
  • “I was just making sure that The King of Dogs wasn’t playing games with us,” I replied with a scowl as I headed towards him.
  • He stood up and placed Aurora on her feet. What had he done? She seemed reluctant to move away from her.
  • I was too obsessed watching her that I didn’t sense when Caleb closed in on me. I winced as a needle pierced the vein in my throat.
  • “What the hell are you doing?” I asked moving away. Rather than replying, he walked towards Aurora and injected her with my blood.
  • Her face washed over with relief and color returned to her face within a few minutes. Suddenly, it struck me. What if he took Aurora away for another week?
  • I couldn’t let that happen. He had already done enough damage. I grabbed her arms hastily and dragged her away.
  • “If anything happens to her, Aslan! I will skin each one of you alive.” I couldn’t help but chuckle at his threat.
  • TYSON’S POV
  • My blood boiled as I saw Aslan walk in with Aurora as if nothing had happened and it was just another day! She didn’t seem to be in pain.
  • “Ah! There she is the docile mother of my innocent child! What a pleasant surprise!” I bit out as I gripped her hand and dragged her to her room.
  • She didn’t deserve mercy. I shoved her inside and barked, “You will soon forget what the outside air feels like. I will see to it that the blood is given to you every ten days ensuring that you never have the strength to escape!”
  • She staggered backward and cowered in a corner but I didn’t care. She had dared to escape my clutches and she deserved to be punished.
  • When I was about to close the door, Aslan gripped my hand and said in a cold voice, ‘You can’t keep her locked.”
  • My face reddened and I could sense fury cloud my vision. I glared at him and gritted out, “Who is going to stop me, YOU!”
  • “That was Caleb’s condition for returning Aurora.”
  • “So what! I am not bound to follow his orders.”
  • Aslan gripped me by my shoulders and said, “You don’t understand! Aurora is his mate. He can sense it if you harm her. Do you want to risk losing your baby, the Heart of Magic, and your empire over your stupid ego?”
  • I was stunned by his words. How was this possible?
  • “Aurora is Caleb’s mate!?”
  • “The way he defended her, drew my blood and injected her, warned me to keep her safe; she has to be his mate…”
  • “Fine! Do what you want but she shouldn’t escape again.” I said and walked towards my den but I couldn’t go further than a few steps. Something was obstructing me.
  • I let my dragon senses take over to see the invisible wall. It seemed oddly familiar. I let my power flow through my fingertips and melted the wall.
  • Just as I was about to take a step the wall rebounded. Then I heard it, that sickly sweet chuckle. I could recognize it anywhere. What was Zarina doing here?
  • “I am much stronger than I was. You can’t defeat me so easily now!” She said walking into view. She hadn’t changed even a bit; the same cheeky attitude, arrogance, and beauty.
  • “Sister, I thought you had come to help me…” Aslan said with a bright smile. I could sense that he was quite enjoying my discomfort.
  • “Alright! Alright! No more squabbles. I won’t trouble The almighty King anymore.” She said, snapping her fingers. The wall vanished at once.
  • “What is she doing here, Aslan?” I asked grabbing him by his throat.
  • “Brother, do you always have to overreact. I called her so that she could help us in finding Zarina. I didn’t know that Caleb would hand her over to you just like that. All because YOU didn’t tell me…”
  • “Tyson, please leave him. I promise I will be on my best behavior. You won’t have to worry about her escaping with me around.”
  • She did have a point. If I couldn’t escape from her magic, Aurora couldn’t too. I nodded my head and released Aslan.
  • Trotting to my den, I rummaged through the several boxes in search of my Amethyst locket.
  • “Searching for this brother,” Aslan said waving the locket in front of me. My face turned pale and I took a protective stance.
  • He snorted and threw the locket at me. His voice was laced with pain as he said, “You really think I am going to attack you…”
  • I heaved a sigh of relief after wearing it and said in an even tone, “I have learned to stay prepared, brother.”
  • He placed his hand on my shoulder and said, “I really hope you will learn to trust us; YOUR family once again.”
  • His hands slumped to his side. He looked at me with longing in his eyes and left.
  • Aslan was too trusting. He doted our little sister. I had to make up for that by staying alert. I hoped that she never breaks his trust. He wouldn’t be able to bear it. He was much more soft-hearted than I was.
