Chapter 17

  • Tripp’s cat was going crazy inside him, “cool it, I have to focus,” he whispered. He couldn’t see the Jeep yet, but he could hear it. He wasn’t taking his eyes off her until this was over. She stood there right now, her hands on her hips, the zip ties hanging from one wrist. He still wasn’t sure what she planned to do, just standing there like ‘here I am’, and it was driving him to distraction.
  • Taking a deep breath, he exhaled slowly and relaxed into his position. He had the dart gun in his hand, but his weapon with the real ammo was sitting beside his hand in case he needed it instead. As long as it was just one person in that vehicle, things should go according to plan. Unfortunately, experience told him things rarely came off without a hitch.
  • When Amari put her hands behind her back and slumped her body like she was completely without strength, he knew the driver was close enough. She walked along, dragging her foot behind her like she was injured. Tripp grinned, she was a smart one, and he was impressed. Right now, she looked like she was completely helpless, but the poor unsuspecting sap driving into their trap didn’t know that. Even tied, she’d proven she was never helpless. He heard the vehicle come to a stop and flicked his eyes quickly toward it to check if it was more than one. He didn’t see another person in it.
