Chapter 16

  • Griffin had to work hard to clamp down on his emotions. He was being hunted and this time he could fight back. No other time in his life had he been able to. He knew it wouldn’t be any of the men that tormented him through the years, those ones always stayed close to their enslaver, Aiden—but the ones coming for him now, still deserved to be removed from this life.
  • He watched Blaise, how she stood motionless and peered out the window. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. Too many had paid the price when he was younger and tried to go against his father’s wishes. No more were going to suffer because he existed. She squatted and opened the window a few inches. He watched her inhale slowly, and duplicated her motion. All he could smell was the flower scent. Did all shifters carry specific scents? He knew it was her he smelled, not some shampoo like she tried to redirect him with. If, no, when they made it out of her, he was going to ask her why she smelled like flowers, and hope she didn’t hit him for it.
  • She jerked her head and looked at him, then motioned with her hand to get closer to the floor. He complied without making a sound, he knelt on one knee and took the safety off the gun. He watched and waited. She had the rifle aimed out the bottom of the window and stayed that way, he couldn’t hear if she were even breathing right now. When she lowered it to the floor and moved closer to the door, his heart picked up the pace again.
