Chapter 4 New boy

  • KRIS:
  • I wasn’t a fan of school.
  • You should know that by now.
  • I wished school days were three instead of five. I didn't know how I managed to get out of bed so early every morning.
  • It was Wednesday morning and my first class was minutes away from starting. I strode into the classroom and as usual, took my seat at the back.
  • It was Chemistry and I loved Chemistry. Chemistry class was the only class where I gave the teacher my full attention. Soon, the teacher came into the class and teaching commenced. He was in the process of explaining Organic Chemistry when the door opened and the principal, Mr. Bradford came in but he wasn’t alone.
  • He was with a blonde guy who I was sure was a new student.
  • Let’s call him Blondie, shall we? I know, I give people nicknames too easily.
  • "Good morning, class. You have a new student." He looked at Blondie, "Be nice to him." He added before leaving.
  • Mr. John, the Chemistry teacher, turned to Blondie, "Introduce yourself to the class."
  • I had a sense of Deja Vu at this point, it felt like I went back in time.
  • "My name is Jake Adams," Blondie replied.
  • "Alright, take your seat so we can continue with the class." Mr. John replied.
  • Blondie scanned the room to find the only vacant seat, of course, it had to be the one next to me.
  • Told you, I traveled back in time.
  • He strode towards me and sat down. I looked at him and he smiled before I turned away. He was good looking with his spiky blonde hair and soft brown eyes.
  • I think sitting at the back was my lucky charm for meeting hot guys.
  • I tried to focus on the teacher but I could feel my eyes on me. I didn't have to look around to know who they belonged to. Every girl in the class was glaring daggers at me.
  • They needed to chill their tits.
  • It wasn't my fault I was a magnet, attracting all the hot guys these days.
  • I'm that pretty. Note the sarcasm.
  • Throughout half of the class, Blondie pretended to be a good boy but soon enough he attempted conversing with me.
  • Is it so hard for him to see I'm trying to focus on what's being taught? My subconscious raged on.
  • "Do you always act like people are invisible?" He asked, smirking at me.
  • Jesus Christ. That was it.
  • "Is it so hard for you to comprehend that I'm trying to focus?" I asked, staring at him with disbelief.
  • Ladies and Gentlemen, he succeeded in distracting me. I knew I could have ignored him but I couldn’t let a question like that slide especially when he was judging me.
  • "Actually, no. It isn't. Just wanted to get your attention and I did." He grinned triumphantly.
  • Asshole.
  • "The only reason I'm trying to be nice to you right now is that you're new. But next time don't ever distract me during chemistry class." I stated coldly.
  • "You like chemistry that much huh?" He raised a brow.
  • YESSS! That's me, screaming in my head.
  • "Yes. Very much."
  • "Okay. Sorry, I'm distracting you. Just wanted to be friends."
  • "Aww, poor baby." I pouted and he chuckled which earned us more stares, "I'm sure there are lots of people that would want to be friends with you. Most of them are even staring at you as we speak." I waved a hand at his supposed admirers.
  • "Nah... I wanna be friends with you cause you're pretty and sassy. I like that."
  • Really? I mentally rolled my eyes.
  • Every other girl would blush at the compliment but not me, I didn't take compliments well. And I had been called pretty a lot. So, no big deal.
  • "Mhm, is that supposed to make me forgive you for distracting me?"
  • "Did it work?" He grinned. He looked really cute when he smiled.
  • "No."
  • "Okay." He shrugged.
  • I turned to focus but the next thing I knew, he took my note.
  • What the hell?
  • I turned to glare at him wondering what he was up to.
  • "Hmm, Kris."
  • Really? Did he take my note just to see my name?
  • "All you had to do was ask." I rolled my eyes.
  • "Doesn't matter anymore."
  • "Okay. Now let me focus. If you want to talk, we'll do that later. Not now."
  • "Fine." He gave me back my note.
  • For the rest of the class, he didn't distract me. At the end of the class, we parted ways. I had to get a textbook for my next class so I went to my locker. I opened it, took the textbook, and closed it to see someone resting on the locker next to mine.
  • It was Tiana Cooper.
  • If you must know, Tiana Cooper was the biggest bitch at Queens High and also the school's number one whore. Not to be mean but she fucked around. Even Chris had tapped her.
  • She believed she owns all the hot guys in school so I was sure that she was here to scold me to stay away from her newest babies.
  • Poor Mama.
  • "Kris!" She drawled out smiling sweetly.
  • "Get to the point. Tiana. We both know we don't like each other."
  • That's right. I wasn't about to act like I didn't know why she was here.
  • "Ha! Okay." She let out a fake laugh, "Well, if you must know, you're not good enough to be with guys like Valentine, Lucian, or Jake." She said harshly.
  • I wasn’t surprised. She wasn't in my chemistry class, obviously too dumb to be in a chemistry class, but news traveled fast.
  • "So, you think you're good enough?" I smiled sweetly.
  • "I don't need to answer that. Everyone knows I'm better than you'll ever be." She smiled, flinging her hair behind her.
  • "Oh, yeah? Then why are you so scared that I’ll take your place?" I asked, plastering a sugar-coated smile on my face.
  • "Can't be scared of a nerd like you." She responded, looking me over with disgust evident in her eyes but that didn't put me off.
  • "Ha. You're only calling me a nerd cause you're dumb as fuck." I laughed and her face contorted into anger.
  • Yeah. Take that bitch.
  • "Now, if you don't mind, this nerd has a class to attend." I turned and walked away.
  • As much as I'd love to skip a class, if Tianna Cooper had to be the reason, then you bet your ass I'll attend all of my fucking classes.
  • __________________________________________________________
  • The school day had finally come to an end. I walked outside thinking about how I'd get home. I'd hitched a ride with Paige in the morning but she got detention again. I didn't know what was up with her.
  • Okay, maybe I know she didn't do her assignments.
  • I really should start driving myself to school. I murmured to myself.
  • I knew Lucian said I shouldn't walk home alone but he was not at school and it wasn’t like I could call him just to come to take me home.
  • I'd better start walking so I can get home fast and eat. I'm really hungry. I advised my lazy self.
  • It was a miracle I was still petite with the way I ate.
  • What can I say? God blessed me.
  • Twenty minutes later, I was home. I saw someone standing on the front lawn and a car in the driveway that was neither my mom's nor mine. I stood frozen for a minute before deciding I needed to know who it was. Slowly, I walked up to him and cleared my throat.
  • He turned; Lucian.
  • What the hell was he doing here? He wasn't even at school and I hadn't called him.
  • "You weren't expecting me. Were you?" He asked coldly.
  • "Umm." I cleared my throat, "Nope."
  • "What did I tell you about walking home alone?" His voice was stern. Something about it had me replying obediently instead of sassing back
  • "I didn't mean to. But Paige got detention again and you were not in school."
  • "Why didn't you call me?" He asked calmly.
  • "Well, I didn't want to disturb you."
  • "You're never a disturbance to me. I'm your Angel, remember?" He smirked.
  • Will he ever let go of that?
  • "Always call me. Even if I'm not in school." He stated.
  • "I will try."
  • "Don't try. Do it." He ordered.
  • Bossy asshole.
  • As if he could hear my thoughts, he shook his head, smirking.
  • "Why don't you drive yourself to school?" He asked.
  • "Driving is stressful. Besides, what can a girl do when she has a chauffeur?" I grinned and he rolled his eyes.
  • "You're just being lazy."
  • And that was in fact, the truth.
  • "I'm not lazy. I just don't like being stressed."
  • He chuckled at that.
  • "Wait, how'd you even know I walked?" I asked.
  • "I have my ways and An-"
  • "I know." I interrupted him, "Angels know everything." I rolled my eyes and he laughed.
  • "Smart girl."
  • "Yeah. I just can't help it. It's in my genes." I grinned and he shook his head.
  • "Now you know I'm fine. I'm going in." I walked past him to the front door and opened it.
  • "You ain't gonna invite me in?" He raised a brow.
  • "Err, if you wanna come in, then get in." I got in and he followed me, closing the door behind him.
  • "If you don't mind, I need to take a bath. So make yourself comfortable." I skipped upstairs without waiting for a reply.
  • He was a stranger and I shouldn't be trusting him by inviting him into my house but he wouldn't do anything funny right? I mean, I'd known him for a short time but he seemed alright.
  • I got to my room, freshened up, and made my way down after wearing shorts and a tank top. I half expected Lucian to be gone but he was sitting comfortably on a sofa watching some program on the TV.
  • "Err, do you want anything to eat? Because I'm about to make dinner."
  • "Aww, you want to feed me." He smirked.
  • "I'll take that as a yes." I got into the kitchen and brought out ingredients for the food. Minutes later, he joined me in the kitchen and offered to help.
  • "Didn't know you had such manners." I taunted.
  • "There are a lot of things you don't know about me."
  • Hmm, that’s true.
  • "Well, I hope I'll know more someday."
  • "Only if I let you." He smirked.
  • "Whatever. If you wanna help, cut those vegetables." I pointed them out to him.
  • Soon after, we were done cooking. I dished the food into plates and we ate in the sitting room, on the floor. When we were done, he offered to do the dishes and I let him.
  • Duh, a girl can't refuse such help.
  • I took that time to do my homework. After he finished with the dishes, he joined me in the sitting room.
  • "Didn't know you were such a serious student." He taunted.
  • "Well, I'm good, unlike some people who skip school." I stuck my tongue out at him. I knew it was childish but I couldn't help doing it at times.
  • "Why do you even skip school?" I asked.
  • "Because I can." He shrugged.
  • What the hell?
  • "Aren't you worried about your grades? Are your parents aware you do that?"
  • "It doesn't matter." He said coldly. It was like a switch had gone off in his brain.
  • But me being me, I continued, "Why did you skip school today?"
  • "Just wasn't interested in being there." He replied nonchalantly.
  • After that, he focused on the TV, dismissing the conversation. Taking the hint, I returned my attention to my homework. When I was done, I kept my bag in my room and came back to see him standing.
  • "Are you leaving?"
  • "Yeah. It's getting late".
  • I was a little disappointed at that. He was good company.
  • "What? You don't want me to go?" He raised his brows. My expression must have displayed my disappointment.
  • Yes. I replied to his question internally.
  • "Nope. Just figured since you’re already standing."
  • Liar!
  • "How do you always stay at home alone?"
  • "Not always but mostly. My mom is always busy so I'm kinda used to it."
  • "Alright. See you some other time, Kris."
  • "Wait, you're not gonna be in school tomorrow?"
  • "I don't know."
  • "Oh, okay. Thanks for keeping me company and checking on me. I know you don't accept thanks. Only God knows how much I owe you now."
  • He chuckled, "Goodbye, Kris."
  • "Bye, Lucian." He stared at me.
  • "Don't call me that."
  • "But it's your fucking na-"
  • "To you I'm Angel. Nothing more." He smirked and I rolled my eyes, "I mean it." He added on a serious note.
  • "Do you go about telling people what to call you?"
  • "Nah, just you, baby." He winked and with that, he left.
  • Not a bad way to end my day.
