Chapter 19 He Has Been Looking For You

  • “Why are you so biased when it comes to Mr. Holloway, Yasmin? You don’t think that Becky could’ve used some sort of tricks to force herself onto him, do you?” Serena obviously disapproved of Yasmin’s opinions as she now looked like a rabid fangirl. “Besides, look at how gorgeous Mr. Holloway is. Even if he’s a scumbag, he’d be a super-hot one!”
  • Yasmin shot Serena the middle finger as she rolled her eyes. “Well, if you’re that into him, why don’t you marry him?”
  • “Oh, please! You think that I don’t want to?” Serena jumped in excitement as her eyes twinkled. “Every girl in the company dreams of marrying him! Even the janitor has a crush on him; she wants to call him her husband!”
  • “How do you even know that?” Yasmin was dumbfounded. “Is he really that charming? Didn’t you use to say that you were afraid of him?”
  • “Sure, I am. However, if I ever get a chance to spend the night with him, I’d do it even if it means freezing to death from his coldness!” Serena clenched her fists in anticipation.
  • “Alright, alright. Get out of here. Stop bothering me already!” Not wanting to hear Serena harp on about Lionel, Yasmin hurriedly chased her away.
  • Yasmin’s mind was all over the place now. When she called home last night, Ms. Quinn told her that Rosanne had dropped by again. Thankfully, Yasmin’s mother had gone to the hospital at that time; the older woman’s condition would have relapsed if the two were to bump into each other.
  • On top of that, the elevator broke down earlier today, and Yasmin had been kissed forcefully by her boss. Thus, her head began to hurt as she thought back on all the recent events that had taken place.
  • Yasmin found herself unable to stay focused the entire morning. Her head throbbed in pain, and she failed to notice the most obvious mistakes in her documents. After finishing her tasks for the morning, it was time for lunch. Choosing not to push herself any further, Yasmin figured that she was better off going home to rest.
  • Yasmin didn’t have to request the afternoon off since Becky wasn’t around. “If she does come back, tell her that Mr. Collins has approved of my leave,” she relayed to Serena before putting on her coat and heading out. Feeling concerned, Serena accompanied Yasmin down the elevator and all the way until the latter had left the building.
  • It was now November, and the weather had turned rather cold. It wasn’t sunny today at all; instead, the wind was rather strong.
  • Yasmin stood at the roadside waiting for the bus. The road was packed with people, but her heart had felt rather empty. The woman had bid her carefree days goodbye ever since she found out the truth about everything six years ago. From then on, she studied hard, worked hard, and tried her best to adapt so that she would stay out of the spotlight. All Yasmin wanted to do was to make enough money and hire the best surgeon for her mother.
  • Despite being only twenty-six, her heart had long turned into stone. There was nothing that could budge her anymore.
  • The bus was late. Yasmin began to feel cold, and the cold breeze only served to worsen her headache. She looked down at her watch. If the bus doesn’t come anytime soon, I’ll just take the subway.
  • Suddenly, Yasmin noticed a man standing in front of her. She looked up to see a well-dressed man staring at her in surprise. “Yasmin Jones? It’s you, Yasmin!”
  • “You are?” Yasmin frowned. She didn’t recognize the man.
  • “You don’t remember me?” The man’s eyes flashed with excitement. “I used to go to Greenlake University too, but I was your senior by one year. I stayed in the same dorm as Henry, and you’d always come over. Do you remember now?”
  • Yasmin’s expression changed at the mention of Henry, but she quickly suppressed it. Upon staring at the man in front of her, she began to recall. “You’re Damian—”
  • “Yeah! It’s me, Damian Connor. I didn’t think that you’d still remember me!” Damian was so thrilled that he nearly broke into a dance before blushing slightly. “Don’t I look better now? Then again, it’s no surprise that you couldn’t recognize me. I used to be pretty chubby back then!”
  • Yasmin’s lips curled into a smile. I remember now. Damian used to be a chubby guy. He was rather mischievous too. He used to tease me whenever I went to their dorm. She also recalled how just like Henry, Damian had left the country during his fourth year of university.
  • “What are you doing here?” Damian scratched his head.
  • “I work at Miller Corporation,” Yasmin answered.
  • “What a coincidence! I’ve just returned from abroad and I happen to be looking for a job. I’ve submitted my resume to Miller Corporation too. Who knows, we might end up being coworkers.” Damian couldn’t take his eyes off of the woman. “You look stunning, Yasmin. You’re prettier than before!”
  • “Thanks.” Yasmin smiled politely as she pointed at the bus that had just arrived. “My ride is here. I’ll be off now!”
  • “Hey, Yasmin! Mind if we exchange contacts?” Damian suddenly remembered the most crucial matter.
  • “Let’s do that next time,” Yasmin replied with a wave.
  • “By the way, did you know that Henry’s back too? He’s been looking for you all this while.”
  • Yasmin, who already had one foot in the bus, stopped in her tracks. Her mind began to buzz, but only for a brief moment. Then, she hopped into the vehicle, pretending not to hear Damian.
  • There weren’t many passengers in the bus now, so the woman casually found a seat at the back and sat down, her ears still ringing with Damian’s words.
  • Henry has been looking for me? Hah! What a joke.
  • Six years had passed, but she never forgot what the man had said to her. He left after hurting me, and now he’s looking for me?
  • Yasmin smirked coldly.
  • At this moment, Yasmin’s phone vibrated before a notification popped up. She looked down, and her heart instantly skipped a beat.
  • Someone had added her on Facebook, and it was none other than Lionel.
  • Yasmin stared at the screen. Should I accept his request? Or should I not? She became flustered once again. Unsure if it was a coincidence, Lionel’s profile picture so happened to be a cloud.
  • Is he actually serious?
  • Nevertheless, how is that possible?
  • After pondering for a long while, Yasmin ultimately decided to ignore the man’s friend request as she tossed her phone back into her purse.
  • Yet, Lionel was obviously not a patient man. Five minutes later, Yasmin’s phone began to ring. Upon glancing at the screen, her heart began to race again.
  • Should I pick up? Or should I not? Yasmin bit her lip in conflict.
  • As her phone continued ringing and other passengers began turning to her, Yasmin eventually decided to pick up.
  • “Hello, Mr. Holloway,” she greeted softly.
  • The woman was met with silence. Just as she began to wonder if Lionel had called her by mistake, he finally spoke. “You’re heading home?”
  • “Yeah. I’m feeling a little unwell,” Yasmin answered nervously, not knowing what the man wanted.
  • “Did you receive the notification?” Lionel asked. The sound of a pen coursing through paper could be heard. The man was probably signing some documents at this very moment.
  • Yasmin’s chest tightened. Naturally, she dared not admit that she had seen the notification. “I just got on the bus, so I haven’t checked my phone yet.”
  • “Okay. Check it now, then,” Lionel responded indifferently before hanging up.
